April 26, 2017 | Softball
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After batting .600 over six games and helping the Boston University softball team extend its conference-win streak to nine games, junior Jilee Schanda has been named the Patriot League Corvias Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Schanda went a combined 12-for-20 at the plate, hitting safely in five games with four multiple-hit performances to claim her first weekly honor since being named Rookie of the Week in 2015. She helped the Terriers earn a three-game sweep over Lafayette to remain second in the standings.
The junior outfielder opened the week with a 3-for-4 appearance in a nine-inning 4-2 loss to UMass Lowell, where she helped send the game to extra innings with a lead-off single before scoring from second. She later added her second homer of the season in the ninth trying to mount a rally for the Terriers.
A Fresno, Calif., native, she closed out her week with a career-tying four hits, in four at-bats, in the series-closing 6-0 win over the Leopards. She finished with three doubles, seven runs, three RBIs, three walks and one stolen base.
She will next take to the field with BU on Thursday at Central Connecticut State with the first pitch of a doubleheader slated for 3 p.m.
