DURHAM, N.H. - Making her collegiate debut, freshman Casey Thompson scored a goal and added an assist to help the No. 19 Boston University field hockey team earn a 4-1 victory over Northeastern in the opening round of the Wildcat Classic on Friday afternoon at Memorial Field.

BU will now face host UNH - a 3-2 winner over UMass - in Sunday's Wildcat Classic title game, which starts at 2 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Senior co-captain Ally Hammel opened the scoring on a penalty stroke while sophomore Ailsa Connolly and senior Kara Enoch added goals less than a minute apart to give the Terriers a 4-0 halftime lead.
After Hammel's successful stroke for BU's first goal of the season, the Terriers continued to apply offensive pressure.
Thompson, who was playing less than 40 miles from her hometown of Windham, New Hampshire, doubled the lead in the 25th minute when she redirected a pass from sophomore Kathryn Scheerer to the back of the cage from five yards out for her first collegiate goal.
Thompson's first assist as a Terrier came just over a minute later when she pounced on a loose ball and slotted a pass to Connolly, who got in position at the goalmouth to knock it home at the 26:42 mark.
The BU offense would not relent, as Enoch made it a 4-0 contest just 35 seconds later when she took a centering pass from sophomore Petra Hall and beat Northeastern netminder Julia Gluyas.
The Huskies spoiled a shutout bid by the Terriers when Shawn Davenport tipped a ball over Baker's reach with 18:30 left in regulation.

GAME NOTES

Senior Kathleen Keegan played the first half in goal and saved the only shot she faced to pick up the victory.
The Terriers held a 17-11 shot advantage while the Huskies held a 4-3 edge in corners.
Sophomore Millie Baker took over in goal for the Terriers at halftime and made a pair of saves. The Huskies spoiled a shutout bid by the Terriers when Shawn Davenport tipped a ball over Baker's reach with 18:30 left in regulation.
BU has now won its past four season openers.

"It was a really good opening day... really good team hockey. We had a lot of different players scoring goals, which you love to see. I think we created a lot of goal-scoring opportunities, especially in the first half. You never know what you're going to get on opening day but I'm really happy for the team and the direction we're going in."

UP NEXT

BU will look to claim its third straight season-opening title on Sunday, having won last year's Terrier Classic and the 2016 Wildcat Classic.
The Terriers have won all three meetings against the Wildcats since leaving the America East conference in 2013.
