The Terriers completed a two-win weekend and improved to 6-10 on the season. The Minutewomen are now an even 8-8.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless opening quarter, the Terriers were able to head into halftime with a 1-0 lead thanks to Gallagher's first tally, which came with just under a minute left in the opening half.
- The senior controlled the ball in the middle of the circle before creating some space on the left side, where she sent a reverse-stick shot past the reach of UMass goalkeeper Marlise van Tonder.
- The visitors mustered just two shots on goal - one in the second quarter and one in the third - but Golini was there to make both saves.
- Gallagher provided an insurance goal in the 41st minute when junior Ailsa Connolly attacked the circle from the right side before finding Gallagher at the far post.
- Gallagher appeared to complete a hat trick soon after but it was ruled that the ball touched the back side of her stick.
- BU held an 11-4 advantage in shots.
- UMass got a five-save performance from Van Tonder.
- Gallagher's other two-goal game came two years ago against Fairfield in the NCAA Play-In Round.
- Golini recorded three shutouts during her two seasons at Quinnipiac before transferring to BU in January 2018.
- BU will close out non-conference play on Wednesday (Oct. 30) when it makes the shortest trip in Division I field hockey to take on Harvard.
- Game time at Berylson Field is set for 6 p.m.
