Softball Seals Series Sweep with 2-1 Walk-Off Victory over Colgate

BOSTON – Boosted by sophomore Ali DuBois' eight strikeouts and senior Alexa Ponce's three hits, the Boston University softball team completed the series sweep against Colgate with a 2-1 walk-off home victory on Sunday afternoon.

Posting a 6-3 advantage in hits against Colgate (17-21, 3-6 PL), the Terriers (23-17, 8-1 PL) remained perfect at home with a 9-0 record. Ponce led off the seventh with a single, and junior pinch-runner Kali Magane eventually scored from second on sophomore Marina Sylvestri's well-placed RBI bunt single.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Senior Emily Morrow put BU on the scoreboard first by doubling to right and scoring on classmate Alex Heinen's RBI single down the right field line.
Ponce added a two-out single in the bottom of the first, but Bella Crow (9-9) earned a ground out to keep BU's lead at 1-0.
After striking out four of five Raiders, DuBois (16-8) allowed her first hit in the top of the fourth with two outs before inducing a fly out to right.
Colgate finally got on the scoreboard for the first time over the weekend in the top of the sixth with a lead-off double and one-out triple.
DuBois bounced back with a strikeout and ground out to keep the score at 1-1.
Providing the only hit between innings 2-6 for BU, Ponce singled up the middle to start the seventh.
Serving as pinch runner, Magane took second on a wild pitch and then scored on a perfectly-placed bunt by Sylvestri that went past the charging pitcher and first baseman.

GAME NOTES

Ponce collected three hits in a game for the sixth time ever and first since 2017.
DuBois earned eight or more strikeouts for the seventh time this season and first since tallying 11 against Rhode Island on March 28.
The Terriers improved to 17-1 all-time against Colgate and are now on an 11-game win streak in the series ... The two runs were the fewest scored BU following a 1-0 loss at Colgate in 2016.

NEXT UP: UMASS LOWELL

The Terriers will host the River Hawks on Wednesday (Aug. 17) with first pitch of the doubleheader set for 3 p.m.
BU won both games last year in Lowell by a combined score of 20-3 after falling at home in 2017, 4-2.
