Lehigh Edges Softball in Weekend Series Finale, 1-0
April 7, 2019 | Softball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Despite sophomore Ali DuBois allowing just three hits with the help of seven strikeouts, the Boston University softball team came up short at Lehigh, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon.
The Terriers (20-16, 5-1 PL) were only able to manage one hit against 2018 All-Patriot League pitcher Parker Boyd (7-8), as the Mountain Hawks (12-21, 4-5 PL) avenged Saturday's pair of 2-0 losses. Seeking her third win on the week after pitching a shutout and collecting a save on Saturday, the reigning PL Pitcher of the Year DuBois (14-7) was undone by what proved to be a costly error in the second inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman Aliyah Huerta-Leipner led off the game with BU's lone hit on a single to center and then advanced to second on senior Emily Morrow's sacrifice bunt.
- Boyd ended the threat by earning a pair of fly outs.
- After BU stranded two on base in the top of the second following a pair of walks, Lehigh had two on base with one out in the second on a single to center and throwing error.
- DuBois struck out the next batter, but pinch hitter Lexi van Ooyen placed a single just outside the reach of the defense in left for the 1-0 advantage.
- Senior Alex Heinen earned her second walk in the sixth and moved to third after Lehigh misplayed a hard grounder with two outs.
- Lehigh got out of the jam by catching sophomore Marina Sylvestri's liner to second.
- Boyd earned three more quick outs in the seventh to seal the shutout win.
- BU already won its first weekend series in three tries at Lehigh since joining the PL in the summer of 2013 but was unable to claim its first regular season sweep against the Mountain Hawks since 2014.
- Now both BU and opponents have shut out one another nine times this season, as the Terriers were held to one hit for the fourth time this season.
- The Terriers will next make the short trek to Harvard to face the Crimson on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
- The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
- Weather has prevented the teams from facing one another reach of the year three years.
- BU has won the last two games, a 6-2 road decision in 2015 and 2-1 home victory in 2014.
