HOW IT HAPPENED
Undone by five errors, the Terriers finished the year at 37-20, as the Cardinal (33-19) advanced to a second elimination game against Boise State. Stanford posted a 10-3 advantage in hits for the run-rule victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With two outs in the top of the first, the umpires negated a strikeout from DuBois with an illegal pitch call, but she bounced back to get a pop up to right to end the threat.
- The Terriers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with the help of two Cardinal errors.
- After being hit by a pitch, sophomore Marina Sylvestri took second on a fielder's choice and then scored on an infield error.
- Stanford added a throwing error on the play toward second that sent the ball past the center fielder and allowed sophomore Jen Horita to round the bases for the second run.
- In the top of the third with two outs, DuBois was called with her fourth illegal pitch of the regional, which led to a walk, infield error and two-RBI double.
- Stanford added another run on an error and then a three-run homer against freshman reliever Emily Gant for the 6-2 lead.
- Trying to mount a rally, senior Madi Killebrew followed Emily Morrow's single in the bottom of the third with a two-out double, but the Terriers grounded out to strand two on base.
- The Cardinal remained on the attack during the next two innings with seven combined runs off five hits and three errors against Gant and freshman Julia Handfield.
