Softball Installs First-Ever Videoboard
November 12, 2020 | Softball
BOSTON – Continuing to upgrade its facilities, the two-time defending Patriot League champion Boston University softball team has installed its first-ever videoboard, replacing the old scoreboard in left-center field, thanks to the generosity of Todd and Anne Klipp, who made the lead gift to the project. In 2018, Todd completed a 34 year career at BU during which he served the University admirably as senior vice president, senior counsel, and Board of Trustees secretary while also being an ardent supporter of Terrier athletics.
"We are incredibly grateful to Todd and Anne for their generosity," said director of athletics Drew Marrochello. "For both of them to still be so dedicated to our department after Todd's retirement from BU is touching and appreciative. They've been dear friends to not only me but our entire staff and student-athletes. I hope that their gift will inspire Terrier alumni, parents and friends to join us as we continue to build our vision for BU softball."
The Daktronics 13HD videoboard ranges 9.5 feet high and 27.5 feet wide. It is comprised of 126,224 pixels and features a virtual customizable stat bar that can include text, graphics, motion graphics and animations for fans to enjoy. The installation will allow improved WiFi accessibility to dugouts and the press box and will include a retractable netting system to protect it from getting hit during practices.
Overall, the Terriers are an impressive 350-111-1 (.759) at home, highlighted by perfect 18-0 records in both 2002 and 2019. BU has posted a winning home record in each of the past 30 seasons and has hosted three of its 13 conference tournament title victories in 2012, 2018 and 2019.

"Our department is focused on creating a championship culture for our student-athletes," said softball head coach Ashley Waters. "They are consistently working to upgrade our facilities and give our athletes the most rewarding experience. The new infield dirt plays smooth and the outfield grass is beautiful. Thanks in large part to the support of Todd and Anne Klipp, the most exciting addition was a state-of-the-art videoboard. This incredible gift will showcase the students' talents to our fans and add to the in-game atmosphere. Our program has always had a strong home field advantage, and these continued improvements in our facilities will help us build off the last two Patriot League championship seasons."
The scoreboard upgrade comes after the outfield was entirely re-sodded in the fall of 2019 and a new batting cage was installed in summer of 2020.Overall, the Terriers are an impressive 350-111-1 (.759) at home, highlighted by perfect 18-0 records in both 2002 and 2019.
