DuBois Garners PL Weekly Honor, Helps BU Gain National Attention
February 11, 2020 | Softball
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After collecting three wins and a save during 22 combined innings of work, Boston University softball junior Ali DuBois has been named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
The award marks the sixth overall for the two-time Patriot League Pitcher of the Year, who helped the Terriers this past weekend open a season 5-0 for the first time since 1993. Previously named to the USA Softball Player of the Year Top 50 Watch List, DuBois posted 22 strikeouts against four walks while allowing just two earned runs for a 0.70 ERA. The Torrington, Connecticut, native limited hitters to a .227 batting average as well.
BU's impressive start to the year that included two wins over defending Southland Conference champion Sam Houston State garnered national attention, as the website Justin's World of Softball placed the Terriers No. 25 in its first top 25 poll of the season. ESPN softball commentator Amanda Scarborough also took note with a tweet after the Terriers became just one of 15 programs to go at least 5-0 over the weekend with 13 of the teams belonging to a major conference (ACC, Big 12, Big 10, Pac-12 and SEC).
DuBois started off by allowing two earned runs in six innings for the 9-3 victory over the Bearkats and followed up later in the day with five shutout innings of relief in a 2-0 win over Lead-Off Classic host Stetson. After tallying 10 strikeouts in 6-0 win over George Mason, DuBois struck out seven of nine batters in three innings to clinch 2-1 victory over SHSU and claim her fourth career save.
With six Pitcher of the Week and four Rookie of the Week honors, DuBois has earned the most weekly honors from a conference since Cassidi Hardy tallied 10 (9x Pitcher, 1x Rookie) in the America East from 2006-10.
The Terriers will remain down south and next open the Winthrop Classic on Friday (Feb. 14) against Georgetown with a 10 a.m. start.
