BOSTON – Facing Niagara for the first time in program history, the Boston University women's lacrosse team posted a statement 17-12 win Friday evening at Nickerson Field.

Makenzie Irvine paced the Terriers with a career-high four goals, while Ava Barry and Hannah Kenneally each posted hat tricks. Lexi Lewis racked up 10 draw controls to go with three ground balls, three caused turnovers and a pair of goals.

Bianca Smith earned the win in net after making three saves ove 30 minutes of action. Freshman Arielle Hammer made her collegiate debut in net, coming on for the final 12 minutes of play.

How It Happened

Kailey Conry wasted no time getting the attack going, slipping in a shovel shot in front of the crease to get the Terriers on the board just over two minutes into play.
Irvine, who led the team in scoring in the opener, stayed hot by burying a feed from Emily Vervlied into the upper 90 before Lauren Kaye connected on a free position shot to put the score at 3-1.
BU caught fire midway through the frame, reeling off a 5-0 run in a three-minute span to stake an 8-2 advantage with 10:33 to go before the break.
Niagara caught the hot stick to close the first, slotting three straight strikes over the final nine minutes to make it an 8-5 game.
Lewis used her speed to dodge past a pair of defenders before Verlived scored in transition, Kenneally added another off the draw, giving the Terriers an 11-5 command less than three minutes into the second half.
Four different Terriers combined for four straight unassisted goals, pushing out the largest lead of the day at 15-6 with 17:25 left on the clock.
Irvine and Kenneally each slotted in unassisted strikes to close the game.

Game Notes

BU placed 30 of its 37 shots on goal.
The Terriers limited Niagara to convert on just 10-of-21 clear attempts.
Irvine leads the team with six goals through two games, slotting 60.0 percent of her shots into the back of the net.
