The Terriers (11-4) were out-hit by the Razorbacks (11-1) and Jackrabbits (6-6) by a combined margin of 29-10, as BU suffered two run-rule defeats. SDSU totaled eight runs over its final three innings for a 12-4 win, and Arkansas scored 10 over the final four innings after BU struck twice in the top of the third.
GAME 1: SDSU 12, BU 4 (6 inn.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Jackrabbits struck first against junior Ali DuBois (7-3) in the bottom of the first with three singles, including a pair with two outs, while also taking advantage of a passed ball and throwing error.
- Sophomore Emily Gant earned a pop up to prevent further damage.
- The Terriers had a single and walk in the top of the second but stranded two runners on base against Grace Glazner (5-2), was the No. 23 recruit in 2019 according to FloSoftball's Top 100 list.
- SDSU opened the third with a triple and after an RBI single added two more runs by taking advantage of an error with a double.
- The Jackrabbits added four more runs off six hits in the fourth and were one out away from a fifth-inning victory before the Terriers tried to mount a comeback.
- Junior Patricia Dun followed classmate Marina Sylvestri's RBI single with a two-RBI double, as the Terriers earned four runs off four hits and error to cut the deficit in half.
- BU used five pitchers in the contest, but SDSU's bats continued to pound the ball and added four runs off five hits in the last two innings to seal the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Making her second start of the day and fourth of the tournament, DuBois (7-4) held the Razorbacks to just one hit through the first two innings after tossing four no-hit innings on Thursday against Arkansas.
- BU struck twice in the third against 2019 All-American Autumn Storms (6-0), as sophomore Nicole Amodio singled to second, advanced to third following an error on junior Jen Horita's infield grounder and scored on freshman Caitlin Coker's sac fly.
- Sophomore Aliyah Huerta-Leipner plated Horita on an RBI grounder for the 2-0 advantage.
- The Razorbacks struck back immediately in the bottom half with four runs off three hits and two walks, including a two-RBI triple down the right field line.
- Arkansas added solo homers in the fourth and fifth innings to prompt freshman Allison Boaz to enter the circle.
- Boaz had two strikeouts to end the fifth but ran into trouble in the sixth with Arkansas pulling away on four runs off four hits and two errors.
- Already No. 5 all-time at BU in strikeouts, DuBois earned two more today to move up to No. 8 in the Patriot League record book past Bucknell's Amanda Fazio ('16) with 466 career strikeouts, just 10 shy of the No. 7 slot.
- Huerta-Leipner led BU with three hits on the day.
- Both Dun and Sylvestri had two hits apiece with Dun posting a team-high two RBIs.
- Collecting wins over Montana (3-2) and Marist (2-0) during the three-day event, the Terriers are 11-4 through the first 15 games of a season for the first time since the 2009 squad accomplished the feat en route to a 43-18 mark and NCAA regional final appearance.
- BU moved to 2-2 all-time against the Jackrabbits in the first meeting since 2008 and 0-5 against Arkansas following Thursday's 4-1 loss.
- The Terriers will have two weeks to recharge after playing 10 games in nine days before heading west to the UCLA Invitational on March 6-8.
- BU will open the event against Cal Poly and current-No. 8 Michigan with a 1 p.m. ET start.
