BU Closes UCLA Invitational with 3-0 Win over Cal Poly
March 8, 2020 | Softball
LOS ANGELES - The Terriers plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning and that was all the support junior Ali DuBois needed, as she struck out five and allowed just two hits to help lead the Boston University softball team to a 3-0 win over Cal Poly on the final day of the UCLA Invitational.
BU (13-7) earned its second win over the Mustangs (10-12) this weekend thanks to another terrific outing from DuBois (9-5). In four appearances at UCLA, Dubois did not allow a single earned run and recorded 17 strikeouts over 21.1 IP. She was particularly effective against Cal Poly, as the Mustangs entered the weekend batting .316 and managed to hit just .163 against her.
Freshman Allison Boaz and sophomore Emily Gant each had an RBI single in the first inning to stake BU a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Aliyah Huerta-Leipner, who crossed the plate in the opening frame, added an insurance run with an RBI single in the sixth. Freshman Caitlin Coker and junior Patricia Dun also scored for the Terriers.
