Fifteen Terriers Named to NHL Opening Night Rosters
October 12, 2021 | Men's Ice Hockey
BOSTON - Fifteen former Boston University men's ice hockey standouts have been named to NHL rosters ahead of Tuesday's opening night.
Evan Rodrigues will be the first Terrier to take the ice this season in the NHL when the Pittsburgh Penguins, led by BU alumnus Mike Sullivan, face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Sullivan is one of two Terriers leading an NHL squad, as John Hynes returns as the head coach of the Nashville Predators, where he'll coach Dante Fabbro.
The Vancouver Canucks became the 11th different team to add a Terrier to their roster when they signed Alex Chiasson to a one-year contract on Tuesday afternoon. Kieffer Bellows will soon officially be the 16th Terrier to be added to a roster, as he has reportedly inked a one-year deal with the New York Islanders.
The Boston Bruins (Charlie Coyle, Matt Grzelcyk, Charlie McAvoy) boast the most former BU skaters on their roster with three, followed by Anaheim (Kevin Shattenkirk, Trevor Zegras) and San Jose (Nick Bonino, Matt Nieto) with two apiece.
