Sophomore Thalia Steenssens scored her third goal of the season for the Terriers, who move to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in Patriot League play. BU doubled up Lafayette in corners, 6-3, and held a 12-9 advantage in shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lafayette only recorded one shot in the first 27 minutes of play but it found the back of the cage for the only goal of the opening half.
- Just over four minutes into the contest Lineke Spaans took a pass and penetrated the circle before sending a reverse-stick shot to the boards for a 1-0 lead.
- The Terriers had the only two corners of the opening half - both in the first quarter - but were unable to capitalize.
- BU nearly tied up the contest seconds before halftime but a chance in tight went wide of the cage.
- Both teams generated more offense coming out of the half but all four shots on goal in the third quarter resulted in saves.
- The Terriers got the equalizer they were looking for in the early stages of the fourth off a restart.
- Junior Rachel Borzymowski drilled a ball towards the circle that was elevated by a Lafayette stick and freshman Payton Anderson controlled the high ball and created a shot for herself that was saved by Leopards netminder Hailey Abbott before Steenssens pounced on the rebound and launched the ball into the netting at 47:23.
- The Leopards quickly regained the lead, however, as Audrey Sawers scored off a corner just 2:16 later to give Lafayette the lead back at 2-1.
- BU pulled goalkeeper Caroline Kelly in favor of an extra field player for the final three minutes and earned a corner with 1:15 to play but the ensuing play resulted in a pair of blocked shots.
- Lafayette tacked on an insurance goal in the final minute to create the 3-1 final.
- Kelly made four saves in goal for the Terriers while Abbott recorded five stops for the visitors.
- BU did not allow a first-half corner.
- The Terriers outshot the Leopards 12-9 and had six corners while allowing three.
- Lafayette improved to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in Patriot League play.
- The Terriers will return to action tomorrow (Oct. 10) when they travel to face No. 19 UConn.
- Game time in Storrs is set for 1 p.m.
