McCarthy Named Hockey East Defender of the Month

AMESBURY, Mass. - Junior Case McCarthy of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named Hockey East Defender of the Month, the league announed on Thursday.
McCarthy was terrific for BU in November. He led all Hockey East blue liners with a team-high four goals during the past month and finished second on the squad in November with five points in seven games. McCarthy scored more goals in November than any Hockey East defender has through the first two months of the season. Not only did McCarthy contribute on the offensive end, but he also totaled nine blocked shots and was a plus-2.
A native of Clarence Center, New York, McCarthy began the month with a goal in three of his first four contests, including a marker in a two-point performance at Northern Michigan on Nov. 5. Three of his four goals came against top-10 opponents, including on Nov. 12 against then-No. 8/9 UMass when he also led BU with four blocked shots.
This is the first monthly award for McCarthy, who has tallied five goals and three assists for eight points this season. He is also second on the Terriers with 19 blocked shots. For his career, McCarthy has notched eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points in 57 games.
BU will return to the ice on Friday, Dec. 3, when the Terriers begin a home-and-home series with New Hampshire at Agganis Arena.
