LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After three-peating as conference champions for the first time in program history and entering the NCAA tournament with a stellar 36-2 record, the Boston University softball team has earned five NFCA Division I All-Region awards, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Thursday afternoon.
Three-time Patriot League Pitcher of the Year Ali DuBois received her third First Team honor and was joined on the top squad by a pair of first-time honorees, sophomore infielder Caitlin Coker and senior outfielder Jen Horita. Junior Emily Gant moved up from her 2019 third team placement to second team, and classmate Nicole Amodio landed on the third team at first base for her first honor. The announcement marks the first time BU had three All-Region First Team members since 2009 and the third time overall after the 1994 squad accomplished the same feat. The Terriers last claimed five total awards in 2007.
A native of Torrington, Connecticut, DuBois becomes the third Terrier to earn three All-Region First Team awards, following in the footsteps of BU Athletic Hall of Famers and former All-Americans, outfielder April Setterlund ('11) and pitcher Audrey West ('96). Sitting at 25-0, DuBois is the only NCAA pitcher with 17+ wins and zero losses while ranking sixth in ERA (0.89) after winning all three PL tournament games. She's currently tied-for-first all-time at BU with 85 wins and needs one more shutout to tie the PL record of 31 shutouts.
Named PL Player of the Year a week prior, Coker currently ranks 13th nationally in runs per game at 1.13 and in the top-75 nationally with a .410 batting average. Last weekend, she scored the first run in the first inning of each game to give the Terriers the lead for good. Previously recognized as the NFCA National Player of the Week, she owns 43 runs this season, one shy of cracking the top 10 in the BU record book, and also has 17 RBIs with eight doubles, three triples and a homer.
A native of San Mateo, California, Horita has had her best season yet, batting .443 after previously hitting .270 in 2019. She went 4-for-9 with a double and three runs scored to earn PL All-Tournament honors and move to 16th nationally in batting average. A two-time PL Player of the Week, Horita is tied with Coker at 12 multi-hit games and is tied for second on the team with six multi-RBI performances.
Gant joined both DuBois and Horita on the All-Tournament team by hitting 4-for-10 with two RBIs and team-high five runs scored while also collecting her second save of the season. Overall, she's batting .391 with 31 runs scored, 23 RBIs, seven doubles, three triples and two homers while adding six stolen bases. A Grove City, Ohio, native was impressive in the circle as well, posting a 5-2 record and 1.18 ERA while holding opponents to a .173 batting average.
Amodio has provided the power this year so far, posting a .400 batting average with a personal-best 11 doubles and 33 RBIs while adding 21 runs scored and three homers. She's added 12 walks and 13 hit-by-pitches to increase her on-base percentage to .527. The Phoenix, Arizona, native has delivered 10 multi-RBI games with three three-RBI performances.
The Terriers will next open the NCAA tournament against Mississippi State on Friday with the ESPN3 broadcast slated for 4:30 p.m. ET.
