Terriers to Welcome Arizona State to Agganis for Weekend Series

The Boston University men's ice hockey team will continue its 100th season this weekend when the Terriers welcome Arizona State to Agganis Arena. Puck drop on Friday is set for 7:30 p.m., with the teams returning to the ice on Saturday at 7. Saturday's game will be televised on NESN+.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • A shorthanded BU squad closed out 2021 with a 5-1 win at Brown on Dec. 31.
  • Sophomore Luke Tuch scored the first two goals of the game, which were his first two markers of the season.
  • Graduate student Max Kaufman assisted on Tuch's winner and also scored while juniors Sam Stevens and Alex Vlasic also found the back of the net.
  • Kaufman has tallied five goals in the last four games, with four of those five strikes coming in either the third period or overtime.
  • Sophomore Drew Commesso is back with the Terriers after missing the Brown contest following his return from the World Junior Championship.
  • He was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month on Tuesday after he posted a 2-0-1 record with a .944 save percentage and a 1.59 goals-against average in three December starts.
  • Junior defenseman Domenick Fensore leads the Terriers in both assists (11) and points (14) while junior Wilmer Skoog and sophomore Dylan Peterson lead the squad with six goals apiece.
  • BU enters the weekend having killed 16 straight power plays dating back to Nov. 27.

SERIES HISTORY

  • BU and Arizona State have met four times in the Sun Devils' short history as a Division I program.
  • The Terriers are 3-1-0 against ASU, including a split of a weekend series at Agganis Arena on Jan. 25-26, 2019.
  • BU swept a weekend series in Arizona on Jan. 26-27, 2018.

SCOUTING THE SUN DEVILS

  • Arizona State is 12-10-0 this season, having won five of its last six games.
  • Four of those wins have been against ranked opponents.
  • The Sun Devils last played on Jan. 1 and 2, sweeping then-No. 9 Cornell in a weekend series in Tempe.
  • ASU earned a 5-2 win and a 3-2 victory over the Big Red.
  • Graduate student Colin Theisen (13g, 12a) leads the Sun Devils with 13 goals and is tied with sophomore Matthew Kopperud (12g, 13a) for the team lead in points with 25.
  • Freshman Josh Doan leads Arizona State with 15 assists and is third on the squad with 21 points (6g, 15a).
  • Junior Ben Kraws has started 12 of the 14 games in which he has played, going 7-5-0 with an .896 save percentage and a 3.40 goals-against average.
  • Sophomore Cole Brady has started 10 of the 11 games in which he has seen time, going 5-5-0 with a .906 save percentage and a 3.68 goals-against average.
