Rent Goal Lifts Men's Soccer to 1-1 Draw at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Extending its unbeaten streak to four games, the Boston University men's soccer team battled Navy to a 1-1 come-from-behind draw on Saturday afternoon at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
Junior Andrew Rent keyed the rally with a 73rd-minute goal, as the Terriers (2-2-6, 0-1-3 PL) tied the 1990 squad for most ties in program history. The Midshipmen (4-2-4, 2-0-2 PL) struck first in the 35th minute and held off BU late to claim a point in the conference standings while their unbeaten streak improved to seven games with four ties included.
HOW IT HAPPENED

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Navy took the game's first three shots with senior Francesco Montali earning a save at 29:57.
- Senior Gianluca Arlotti attempted BU's first shot at 28:32, and the Terriers later earned their first corner at 31:36 after Navy blocked Rent's shot.
- Jason Aoyama gave the Mids the lead at 34:39 by ripping a shot from eight yards out with assistance from Jake Granados and Noah Ward.
- Freshman Diego Rived and sophomore Kevin Torres had back-to-back shots in the final 80 seconds that led to a corner, but Navy maintained the 1-0 advantage entering the locker room.
- Rived forced Thomas Pearson to make his first save at 46:48, and sophomore Brian Hernandez helped the Terriers earn another corner kick one minute later with a blocked shot.
- BU kept the pressure on with three corners between 65:56 and 67:38.
- The Terriers finally broke through at 72:34 following another corner after Rent pounced on a rebound with a quick strike set up by Rived's initial shot attempt that was blocked.
- BU earned two more corners minutes later but was unable to get off a shot the rest of the game.
- Navy made a late charge with four shots between the 85th and 89th minutes, but Montali stepped up with two saves to secure the draw.
- Rent (1g, 3a) became the sixth Terrier to score a goal this season and moved up to second on the team at five points, as he joined senior Quinn Matulis (1g,1a) in earning at least one goal and one assist.
- Rived is now second on the team with two assists after he claimed his first point against Army West Point on Wednesday.
- Montali finished with five saves, while Pearson had one stop for Navy.
- The Terriers claimed a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks with seven taking place in the second half, while Navy had a 12-11 edge in shots.
- BU is now 6-2-1 all-time against Navy after making its first visit to Annapolis since 2018.
- BU will return home for a two-game homestand and host local rival Harvard on Tuesday (Oct. 4) at 6 p.m.
- The home team has won each of the last six games in the series with the Terriers posting a 6-0 combined score at Nickerson Field.
