No. 9 Terriers Trek to No. 6 Michigan for Weekend Series

The No. 9 Boston University men's ice hockey team will travel to Michigan this weekend for a two-game set against the No. 6 Wolverines. Puck drop on Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the two teams concluding the series on Sunday at 5.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • BU opened Jay Pandolfo's first season as Terrier head coach with an 8-2 win over Bentley on Oct. 1 at Agganis and followed that with a 7-1 exhibition victory over Waterloo on Oct. 8.
  • Freshman Quinn Hutson, who had a goal and an assist in the opener, notched a hat trick against Waterloo.
  • Senior Matt Brown, sophomore Ty Gallagher, senior Ethan Phillips and sophomore Tristan Amonte each found the back of the net, with Amonte notching a shorthanded goal.
  • Junior Dylan Peterson produced three assists, all of which were the primary helper, while freshman Jeremy Wilmer, senior Jay O'Brien and freshman Lane Hutson each added two assists.
  • BU outshot Waterloo, 65-12, in the win, with juniors Drew Commesso and Vinny Duplessis combining to make 11 saves.
  • Freshman Ryan Greene notched two goals and one assist in the season opener, joining classmates Lane Hutson (3a) and Jeremy Wilmer (1g, 2a) atop the team leaderboard with three points through just one game.
  • Junior Luke Tuch and freshman Devin Kaplan each recorded one goal and one assist against Bentley.
  • Commesso stopped 22 shots against the Falcons.
  • BU went 2-for-7 on the power play and a perfect 7-for-7 on the penalty kill.

SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES

  • Michigan is 2-0-0 after a weekend sweep of Lindenwood in Ann Arbor.
  • The Wolverines won game one, 7-4, before taking the finale, 3-1.
  • Freshman Adam Fantilli led Michigan with four points (1g, 3a) in two games while sophomores Dylan Duke (1g, 2a) and Mackie Samoskevich (2g, 1a) each chipped in three points in the sweep.
  • Junior goaltender Erik Portillo started both games, posting a 2.51 goals-against average and an .868 save percentage.
  • Michigan averaged 48.0 shots on goal over the weekend, went 3-for-12 on the power play and was 5-of-6 killing penalties.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU and Michigan have met 30 times since 1950, with the Terriers owning a 13-17-0 record against the Wolverines.
  • The teams first met in the 1950 NCAA semifinals, with BU earning a 4-3 win.
