Hutson Named Hockey East Player of the Week
November 28, 2022 | Men's Ice Hockey
AMESBURY, Mass. - Boston University men's ice hockey freshman Lane Hutson was named Hockey East Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
This is the second week in a row and third week overall that Hutson has garnered recognition from Hockey East, as he was twice named Hockey East Rookie of the Week (Nov. 21, Oct. 31). Hutson was outstanding in the Terriers' 5-2 win over then-No. 19 Notre Dame on Wednesday. The dynamic defender tallied two goals, including the game-winner early in the third period, in the victory over the Fighting Irish. It was Hutson's second consecutive game-winning goal, as he lit the lamp in overtime at Northeastern on Nov. 19 to lit the Terriers to a 4-3 triumph.
Hutson is the second Terrier to be selected as the league's Rookie and Player of the Week this season, joining classmate Ryan Greene. BU is just the second Hockey East team to have two different players receive both those honors in the same year. Hutson was also the league's Defender of the Month for October.
A native of North Barrington, Illinois, Hutson leads all rookie defenders and is second among all NCAA blue liners in points per game (1.17), having tallied 14 points (6g, 8a) in 12 games. He has put together six multi-point games, including each of the last two tilts, and his 14 points is first among all Hockey East defensemen and ninth among all league skaters overall. In addition, Hutson is a plus-4 and has blocked 13 shots.
BU will return to action on Friday when the Terriers travel to New Hampshire to begin a home-and-home series with UNH. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
