Terriers to Face Lehigh in Patriot League Title Game on Saturday

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Boston University field hockey team aims for its fifth Patriot League tournament title on Saturday (Nov. 3) as the top-seeded Terriers will take on third-seeded Lehigh in the championship game.
BU is in the title game for the eighth time in 10 years while the Mountain Hawks are in the final for the first time since 1996. Lehigh was picked fourth in the Patriot League preseason poll while the Terriers were fifth.
When the teams met for the PL opener on Sept. 17, BU posted a 4-1 home win. Lehigh opened the scoring but the Terriers responded with two goals from sophomore Payton Anderson while freshman Amalia Preece and junior Tess Csejka also found the back of the cage.

TERRIER TIDBITS
- The top seed in the Patriot League Championship for the sixth time in the past eight years, BU is in search of its fifth title and first since 2018.
- Sophomore Payton Anderson was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, freshman Martu Coulo became the third PL Rookie of the Year in program history and Sally Starr was named PL Coach of the Year for the sixth time in the past eight seasons.
- Senior Rachel Borzymowski became the first player in program history to be named the PL Scholar-Athlete of the Year in field hockey.
- Senior Caroline Kelly is the two-time reigning PL Goalkeeper of the Week and her .795 save percentage is tied for fourth in the nation and is the highest by a Terrier in 10 seasons.
- Junior Tess Csejka continues to lead the team in both goals (10) and points (21) while Anderson ranks second in both with 20 points and nine goals.
- Anderson was joined on the All-Patriot League First Team by junior Thalia Steenssens while Borzymowski, Kelly, Csejka, Coulo were all second-team picks.
- Steenssens and graduate student Casey Thompson share the squad lead in assists with nine apiece.
- Borzymowski, Thompson and senior Mikayla Crowley all earned spots on the Academic All-PL Team as Thompson became the first four-time honoree in league history.
- The Mountain Hawks are 10-2 since the Terriers' victory back on Sept. 17.
- In the semifinals, Lehigh earned its first-ever win against American, needing a nine-round shootout to upset the second-seeded Eagles, 2-1.
- Senior Sarah Bonthuis and junior Julia Gatelein were named to the All-Patriot League First Team while senior Maddie Kahn and freshman Kiki Mes were second-team picks.
- Bonthuis has had a great season for Lehigh, posting 32 points on 11 goals and 10 assists.
- Junior Abbie Brown (7g, 2a) and freshman Maddie Kandra (6g, 2a) have produced 16 and 14 points, respectively.
- Senior Maddie Kahn has played every minute in goal and currently has a 1.91 goals-against average and .750 save percentage.
- BU is 8-2 all-time against Lehigh and this is the first-ever PL tournament meeting between the two programs.
- The teams have alternated wins and losses over the past four meetings, including both of the Mountain Hawks' all-time wins against the Terriers.
