December 6, 2022 | Men's Ice Hockey
AMESBURY, Mass. - Freshman Lane Hutson of the Boston University men's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Defender of the Month, the league announced Tuesday.
This is the second straight month that Hutson has received this honor, as he also took it home for his play in October. The dynamic defender was outstanding in November as he helped lead BU to a 4-1-0 record. Hutson was second among all Hockey East defenders with six points thanks to three goals and three assists. He finished as a plus-four and blocked two shots. Two of Hutson's three goals were game-winners, including an overtime goal at No. 18/16 Northeastern. Hutson then tallied two goals, including the game-winner, in the Terriers' 5-2 triumph over No. 19 Notre Dame on Nov. 23.
Hutson is tied for fourth among NCAA defensemen with 17 points thanks to six goals and 11 assists. His average of 1.21 points per game ranks second nationally among blue liners and he is third in the nation in goals by a defenseman with six. Hutson already has a pair of three-assist games to his credit and leads BU with three game-winning goals, including two in overtime. He has tallied seven points during the Terriers current four-game win streak and has notched at least two points in seven of his 14 appearances.
The North Barrington, Illinois, native was named to the preliminary roster for the U.S. National Junior Team and will compete for a spot on the final 23-player roster that will skate at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2022 – Jan. 5, 2023, in Moncton, New Brunswick, and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
