TERRIER TIDBITS
- Tabbed Patriot League preseason favorites, BU returns eight All-Conference honorees from last year's squad that claimed a program-record .900 winning percentage with a 36-4 record and the second-ever No. 3 seed at an NCAA regional.
- Reigning PL Player of the Year and junior Caitlin Coker batted .403 last season with 43 runs scored, while PL Rookie of the Year Lauren Keleher batted .339.
- Graduate student Jen Horita batted .452, and fellow NFCA All-Region member Nicole Amodio (11 doubles, three HRs) hit .385.
- BU returns three pitchers from last season, including NFCA All-Region honoree and senior Emily Gant (5-2, 2 SV, 1.18 ERA) who collected 45 strikeouts in 47.1 innings while batting .387. Juniors Allison Boaz (5-0, 1.82 ERA) and Lizzy Avery (1-0, 2.33 ERA) combined for 50 strikeouts in 54.1 innings of work with Boaz pitching a no-hitter against Merrimack.
- Unable to fly during the regular season last spring due to the pandemic, BU is headed south for the first time since the shortened 2020 season when the Terriers opened a combined 8-0 with notable wins in Florida and South Carolina against defending Southland Conference champion Sam Houston State (2x), three-time defending Southern Conference regular season champion UNC Greensboro and Georgetown.
- BU is scheduled to face at least one opponent from every Power 5 conference (ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC) this season. BU will be seeking a win against the ACC for the third straight season after beating Boston College twice last season and Virginia in a shortened 2020 campaign.
- Selected fifth in the ACC preseason poll, the Fighting Irish went 33-15 last season with a 20-10 ACC record and appearance in the NCAA regional finals.
- ND is led by All-American Abby Sweet, who batted .445 last season with 43 runs scored, 23 RBIs, 20 stolen bases and 18 doubles.
- ND batted .299 last year while holding opponents to .223 with a 62-41 advantage in doubles and 42-24 lead in homers.
- Payton Tidd (15-6, 2.40) and Alexis Holloway (14-7, 2.79 ERA) are the top two returning pitchers.
- This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
- Named Conference USA preseason favorites, the 49ers posted a 31-19 record last season with a 22-8 home record.
- C-USA Player of the Year Bailey Vannoy batted .387 with 23 doubles (t-2nd in the nation) and 13 homers, while Lindsay Walljasper (15-9, 3.07 ERA) collected 105 strikeouts in 175.1 innings.
- Charlotte opened 2022 Thursday with a 10-7 win over Virginia with Vannoy batting 2-for-3 with three runs and Walljasper limiting UVA to four runs in five innings of work with six strikeouts.
- Kourtney Gremillion batted .294 last season with 43 RBIs for preseason All-Conference honors and helped knock out the Cavaliers with a three-run homer.
- The Terriers are 1-3 all-time vs. the 49ers with the teams earning a split at Charlotte's Green & White tournament in 2010. Whitney Tuthill ('13) pitched a no-hitter for a 2-0 win before the 49ers prevailed, 3-2.
- BU will remain down south and visit Georgia for the Red & Black Showcase on Feb. 18-20.
- The Terriers will face the host Bulldogs (2x), Delaware (2x) and Purdue.
