GAME 1: BU 3, San DIego 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Horita singled up the middle and then advanced to third after a single and a walk loaded the bases. Keleher then drove in Horita with an RBI sac fly.
- Horita then drove in the Terriers' final two runs of the contest in the bottom of the second when she singled up the middle for the second straight at-bat. The runner on third scored with the trail runner then scoring on a throwing error.
- After a strikeout to lead off the top of the fourth, San Diego got its first baserunners of the game on a walk and a single, but Avery responded with a pair of Ks to get out of the jam.
- The Toreros plated a run in the top of the fifth, but Avery responded by retiring them in order in the final two innings to secure the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers raced out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. After a pair of singles, a sac bunt and an error gave BU second and third with one out, an RBI sac fly from senior NIcole Amodio plated the Terriers' first run. Keleher then singled home a second run, stole second and scored on Pryor's RBI single.
- SDSU got on the board with an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning, then cut the Terriers' lead to 3-2 thanks to an RBI double in the second inning.
- BU loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the third, but the Aztecs induced a pair of grounders to retire the lead runner and get an out away from escaping the jam.
- However, Sellers singled up the middle to plate two runs and give the Terriers a 5-2 advantage.
- The Terrier defense stepped up in the bottom of the third, with Boaz snagging a hard-hit grounder to start a 1-5-3 double play to end the inning.
- BU added to its lead in the fifth. After Amodio was hit by a pitch and Pryorsingled over to third, Gant delivered an RBI sac fly to make it 6-2.
- Boaz retired eight Aztecs in a row to get the Terriers to the seventh with a four-run lead.
- Gant added to that advantage when she singled home Roncin to make it, 7-2.
- Boaz then worked around a leadoff single to retire the final three Aztecs and seal the victory.
- BU will continue its California trip with a visit to Cal State Fullerton for two games on Tuesday (March 8) evening.
- The Terriers will play Penn at 5 p.m. ET and the host Titans at 9 p.m. ET.
