Women's Tennis Upends UConn, 6-1

WINCHESTER, Mass. – Competing in the final non-conference matchup of the regular season, the Boston University women's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 win over UConn on Saturday afternoon at the Winchester Tennis Center.
The Terriers (8-7) swept through doubles and captured five of the six singles points, including four in straight sets, for their third straight win, as the Huskies fell to 7-7.
Graduate student Emily Kim, junior Erica Di Battista, senior Shelly Yaloz, sophomore Kaitlin Tan and freshman Sydney Sharma all went 2-0 on the day.
Sharma teamed with sophomore Victoria Carlsten for a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles before Di Battista and Kim earned a 6-3 win in the top slot. Yaloz and Tan completed the doubles sweep, 6-4.
Tan dropped the fewest games in singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 3 slot with Yaloz (#4), Sharma (#5) and Kim (#6) all dropping just three apiece in straight-sets victories. Di Battista held off a charge at line 2 in a 6-1, 3-6, 10-8 win.
The Huskies' Leonie Hoppe avoided the shutout by prevailing in the super tiebreaker for the 2-6, 7-5, 10-8 win.
BU has a quick turnaround and will host Patriot League foe Holy Cross on Sunday (April 3) with action set for 1 p.m. at the Track & Tennis Center.
