April 21, 2022 | Women's Tennis
The other two teams in BU's side of the bracket, No. 4 Loyola Maryland and No. 5 Bucknell, will also compete at 11 a.m. No. 2 Navy will meet No. 7 Lehigh at 3 p.m. with No. 3 Army West Point and No. 6 Colgate facing off at 3 p.m. as well.
The Terriers (12-7, 5-0 PL) enter the event on a seven-match win streak and have earned earlier shutouts against Binghamton, Bryant, Rhode Island, Loyola Maryland, Holy Cross and Lehigh. They claimed notable non-conference wins against regional rivals Brown (2x) and UConn before concluding the regular season with victories against the Black Knights and Midshipmen to clinch the No. 1 seed.
Senior Shelly Yaloz leads the Terriers with a 16-6 singles record, including a perfect 5-0 mark at line 4 and 7-2 mark in the No. 5 slot. Sophomore Victoria Carlsten is the lone Terrier to go a perfect 5-0 in conference play, all at line 1, and is one of five with double-digit singles wins this season at 13 total alongside Yaloz, junior Erica Di Battista (15), freshman Michelle Kleynerman (14) and freshman Sydney Sharma (12).
The Terriers will face Lafayette in their third consecutive PL quarterfinal. Last season, BU posted 4-0 wins against both the No. 8 Leopards and No. 4 Bison before edging the No. 2 Midshipmen in the final, 4-3. In 2019, BU came up just short to the Black Knights in a 4-3 decision, and will now try to repeat as PL champions for the first time since winning four straight from 2014-17.
The Leopards enter the matchup a 5-11 (1-5 PL) after earning a 4-1 victory over Holy Cross in Thursday's first-round matchup.
