BOSTON – For the first time in program history, the Boston University women's lacrosse team heads to Merrimack for a mid-week, non-league matchup on Wednesday (Apr. 6). Opening draw is set for. 4 p.m.
BU plays its first game outside of Patriot League play for the first time since Mar. 5. Wednesday serves as the penultimate out-of-conference contest for the Terriers in 2022, as the final game takes place at Harvard later this month.
In addition to Game Day, Wednesday marks Giving Day at Boston University. This year, the program is matched up against women's ice hockey in the Team Revenue Head-To-Head Challenge. TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers dropped a 16-13 home contest to Lafayette on Saturday (Apr. 2).
- Freshman Matty Spaeth scored four goals, while redshirt junior Teagan Lucchese set a career-high with three assists and four points.
- Junior Claire Gola filled the stat sheet with three goals, three ground balls, four draw controls, and four caused turnovers.
- Classmate Jennifer Barry controlled a season-high 16 draws to move into second place all-time with 200 career draw controls.
- Barry is now 36 draw controls away from the all-time record, set by Jill Horka at 236 from 2013-16.
- Spaeth leads the team with 21 goals and 23 points. The last Terrier rookie to lead the team in points in a season was Kailey Conry in 2017.
- Gola leads the team with 14 caused turnovers, and also ranks second fourth in draw controls and goals, respectively.
- With sophomore Olivia Kingsborough scoring her first-career goal against the Leopards, nine Terriers have scored their first collegiate goal in seven of BU's 11 games this year.
- BU ranks ninth and 11th in the nation with a .586 draw control percentage and 17 draw controls per game, respectively.
- Barry is one of three student-athletes in Division I averaging more than 10 draw controls per game, ranking second in the nation at 10.64.
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
- Merrimack enters the contest with a 2-7 record, most recently falling to Mount St. Mary's 13-5 on Saturday in Maryland.
- The Warriors, currently in their third season (first full season) in Division I, are members of the NEC.
- Merrimack's two victories have come in conference play: 17-6 over Howard and 12-4 at CCSU.
- Catherine Mahanna leads the squad with 26 points. Meghan Dzialo's 23 goals are a team-high, while Natalie Calkins has eight assists.
- Merrimack was predicted to finish seventh in the NEC Preseason Poll.
- Last year, the Warriors went 3-11, including a 3-9 conference performance.
SERIES HISTORY
- Saturday marks the first all-time meeting between BU and Merrimack.
- The Warriors are the only team on BU's 2022 schedule the Terriers have never faced before.
- The last team that BU squared off against for the first time was La Salle on Mar. 15, 2021.
