BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After collecting a pair of complete-game victories, Boston University softball junior Lizzy Avery has earned Patriot League Pitcher of the Week honors, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The announcement marks the third time this season that the Alameda, California, native has been honored. She posted a 2-0 record and 0.00 ERA while tallying 12 combined strikeouts in 14.0 innings of work at Army West Point.
Avery started off in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader by going the distance in a 2-1 nine-inning marathon victory in which she held the Black Knights to just two hits with nine strikeouts. In Sunday's matchup, she helped the Terriers earn an 11-1 run-rule victory to complete the series sweep and extend the NCAA leading active win streak to 26 contests.
Following the two performances, Avery ranks 29th nationally at 18 wins, 40th in strikeouts (173), 86th in hits allowed per seven innings (5.15) and 101st in ERA (2.13).
Overall, the Terriers have now claimed seven PL Pitcher of the Week awards, seven Player of the Week honors and one Rookie of the Week recognition. Sitting at 37-13 and 15-0 in conference play, they will next conclude the regular season by hosting Lehigh (13-2 PL) in a three-game series starting Saturday at 12 p.m. with PL tournament hosting rights on the line.
