June 13, 2022 | Softball
DANBURY, Conn. – Adding to its impressive awards haul this season, the Boston University softball team set a program and Patriot League record with four Terriers earning All-ECAC honors, as announced by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).
Junior Allison Boaz, senior Emily Gant and sophomore Kayla Roncin were all placed on the official 13-member team, while junior Caitlin Coker was one of eight student-athletes to receive honorable mention recognition. BU's four honorees led the ECAC's membership, which includes 86 NCAA Division I schools from 15 combined conferences, and topped the previous Patriot League high of three set in both 2001 and 2003.
Named Patriot League Pitcher of the Year and an NFCA All-Region First Team honoree, Boaz (San Diego, Calif.) posted a 22-6 record to rank 24th nationally in victories and also 13th in ERA at 1.42. She posted eight solo shutouts, 21st most, and added two saves.
A First Team All-PL and All-Region member, Gant (Grove City, Ohio) recently became BU's first CoSIDA Academic All-American in eight years. She finished second on the team batting .387 while tallying 46 RBIs, six homers, six doubles, four triples and four stolen bases as an outfielder.
Roncin (Toms River, N.J.) had a stellar sophomore campaign, earning both PL Player of the Year and NFCA All-Region First Team accolades. She batted .431, 14th best mark in the NCAA, and ranked seventh with 81 hits, while recording 49 runs scored, 36 RBIs, 12 doubles, eight stolen bases, five triples and four homers.
The 2021 PL Player of the Year Coker (Downingtown, Pa.) is a two-time All-PL First Team and NFCA All-Region member who was recognized alongside her three teammates by the ECAC for the first time. She batted .326 with 45 runs scored, 24 RBIs, 15 doubles and 12 stolen bases from the lead-off position while boasting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage at third base.
