Softball Adds Second National Ranking to Historic Season

BOSTON – After capturing its fourth Patriot League tournament title in six years, the Boston University softball team earned its second national top-25 ranking entering the NCAA Regionals.
Owner of the most wins by a Northeast school since 2002, the 51-8 Terriers remained No. 25 in the USA Today / NFCA Coaches poll for the second consecutive week after claiming a spot for the first time since 1996. This week, BU added a No. 25 ranking in Softball America's poll for the first time in program history and earned its first vote of the season in ESPN.com/USA Softball's poll.
Led by head coach Ashley Waters, BU ranks in the top 10 nationally in seven NCAA statistical categories, including fifth in ERA (1.55), fifth in fielding percentage (.981) and eighth in batting average (.328).
Sitting at No. 37 in the latest NCAA RPI rankings, the Terriers will open the Athens Regional against NFCA's No. 24 Virginia Tech on Friday (May 19) at 2 p.m. on the ACC Network. No. 14 Georgia and NC Central will follow at 4:30 p.m. in the double-elimination event.
