BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After helping lead the Boston University softball team to a perfect 4-0 record, Boston University softball senior pitcher Allison Boaz and senior infielder Caitlin Coker have earned Patriot League weekly honors, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Both Terriers were recognized for the third time this season, as BU extended its win streak to 26 games while also setting a program record for victories at 46 total. Boaz posted a 3-0 mark with a 0.82 ERA to collect her eighth overall Pitcher of the Week award, while Coker set a school record at seven career Player of the Week honors from a conference by batting .615 with five RBIs and five runs scored.
Boaz started the week off by holding Boston College to just two hits in an 11-0 (5) run-rule shutout victory, helping the Terriers tie the program record for shutouts in a season at 22. In her second game, she tallied eight strikeouts against just two hits for the 9-1 (6) run-rule win over Army. The San Diego, California, native wrapped up the weekend limiting the Black Knights to three hits and one run in a 7-1 victory to improve to 21-4 on the season.
Coker made an immediate impact in the Terriers' win over the Eagles, plating the go-ahead run in the first inning. The Downingtown, Pennsylvania, native added an RBI double to help BU score its most runs against a Power 5 team since beating Rutgers, 12-7, in 1997. In the three-game sweep against the Black Knights, she went 7-for-9 with three RBIs, four runs scored and a perfect fielding percentage.
The Terriers will wrap up the regular season at fellow unbeaten PL team Lehigh with conference tournament hosting rights on the line. The three-game series will start on Saturday (May 6) with the doubleheader slated for a 12 p.m. start and Sunday's single game set for 12 p.m. as well.
