Softball Earns First NFCA Top 25 National Ranking Since 1996

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After capturing its fifth straight Patriot League regular season title with the help of both a program and conference-record 28-game win streak, the Boston University softball team has entered this week's USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Tuesday morning.
The poll entry marks the Terriers' first since finishing the 1996 campaign at No. 25. That season, BU went 36-10 and reached the program's first NCAA Regional Final as the America East champion and No. 4 seed by eliminating both host UConn (#3) and UMass (#2) before coming up short a second time to top-seeded Princeton.
BU is the first Patriot League squad to be nationally-ranked and accomplished the feat by ending the regular season ranked No. 2 nationally at 22 shutouts, No. 3 in win-loss percentage (.857), No. 3 in fielding percentage (.983), No. 7 in ERA (1.58) and No. 7 in batting average (.326).
Owner of both a program and conference record 48 victories, the Terriers will enter the PL tournament with an RPI ranking of No. 43. they are 12-5 this season against top-100 squads with a 2-0 win over No. 17 Baylor (#17 in NFCA poll), 10-0 run-rule victory at No. 33 Cal State Fullerton, 5-3 win over No. 37 San Diego State and pair of victories against No. 45 Penn State.
BU also owns notable wins over No. 61 Georgia Tech (2-0), No. 66 Lehigh (9-2, 5-1), No. 68 South Florida (8-0), No. 77 UConn (1-0), No. 84 Long Beach State (2-0) and No. 94 Boston College (11-0).
The Terriers will next open the PL tournament as host and top seed against Bucknell on Thursday (May 11) with the ESPN+ broadcast set for 12 p.m.
