Softball Sweeps Final Patriot League Weekly Awards Offering

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After winning the last weekend series of the regular season at Patriot League rival Lehigh, the Boston University softball team swept all three final weekly awards, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Kayla Roncin batted .417 with four RBIs and six runs scored alongside a perfect fielding percentage (four putouts, 11 assists) at short to claim her third Player of the Week honor this year, while senior Allison Boaz collected her fourth Pitcher of the Week recognition by limiting the Mountain Hawks to one run in a 5-1 game one victory. Freshman Kasey Ricard added her fourth Rookie of the Week accolade with the help of nine strikeouts in the 9-2 game two win.
The sweep marked BU's third overall of the spring and the first where three different Terriers were honored, as Ricard was also previously recognized as Pitcher of the Week on five occasions. The announcement increased the Terriers' haul to a combined 22 awards over the 13-week period of competition.
A native of Toms River, New Jersey, Roncin started off the battle of two top-75 squads by scoring two runs and hitting a solo homer at Lehigh. During the second contest to clinch BU's fifth straight conference regular season title, she went 3-for-4 with an RBI single and two-run homer. In the final matchup, she tied the conference record for hits at 85 total by earning a single in a 3-2 loss.
Boaz helped her own cause in the circle by collecting four assists defensively in her 22nd win of the spring. The San Diego, California, native allowed just four hits against zero walks with the help of four strikeouts to hand the Mountain Hawks their first conference loss.
Ricard made a second appearance in the third meeting against Lehigh to earn two outs and finish with a .154 opposing batting average and 1.83 ERA. The Littleton, Massachusetts, native allowed just four hits, including a two-run homer, in her lone start to end the regular season at 19 wins.
BU will next open the PL tournament as host and No. 1 seed by battling No. 4 Bucknell on Thursday (May 11) with a 12 p.m. start time.
