Women’s Soccer Adds Savella, Tyburczy To Roster

BOSTON – Ahead of its 2024 spring season, the Boston University women's soccer program has added transfer student-athletes Gianna Savella and Helene Tyburczy, Head Coach Casey Brown formally announced on Tuesday.
 
Savella arrives from Syracuse as a sophomore, while Tyburczy comes to Terrier Town after two years at Auburn.
 
"We are thrilled to welcome Helene and Gianna to our program," said Brown. "We feel both Helene and Gianna will help make us better on and off the field. We are excited for all that is ahead and are so happy to have them join the BU women's soccer family!"
 
GIANNA SAVELLA
Midfielder/Defender · 5-6 · Massapequa, N.Y. · Massapequa High School (Syracuse)
  • Savella played 18 games as a freshman at Syracuse, making one start.
  • Her first-career point came on an assist against Eastern Michigan on Sept. 1, 2022, then potted her first collegiate goal against Cornell on Sept. 11.
  • She was one of 13 teammates recognized and named to the 2022 All-ACC Academic Team, as well as the 2022 Fall and 2023 Spring Athletic Director's Honor Roll and 2022-23 ACC Academic Honor Roll.
  • Savella was a three-year letterwinner at Massapequa High School, capping her senior year as a team captain with 23 goals and 13 assists.
  • She garnered Third Team All-New York State honors in 2019, and was a two-time All-Long Island Second Team selection.
 
HELENE TYBURCZY
Defender · 5-9 · Ramsey, N.J. · Ramsey High School (Auburn)
  • Tyburczy spent two seasons at Auburn, redshirting the 2023 campaign after playing 36 total minutes in her freshman year.
  • She made her collegiate debut on Aug. 21, 2022 against Southern Mississippi, tallying a season-high 27 minutes.
  • Following her rookie year, she earned spots on the 2022-23 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
  • Tyburczy was a First Team All-State honoree at Ramsey High School from 2018-20, helping her team to three consecutive league and state sectional championships in that span.
  • In 2021, she was selected as a United Soccer Coaches High School All-American and the NJGSCA State Player of the Year.
