Returning for a 16th year, the Terrier Twelve recognizes the top achievements of Boston University teams and student-athletes from the previous year. In 2023-24, over half of BU's teams either won a conference title or finished runner-up at their league championship, and all of those programs will be represented in the countdown. Check back each Tuesday and Friday this summer as we unveil this year's Terrier Twelve onÂ
GoTerriers.com.
Coming in at number three in this year's Terrier Twelve is men's soccer, which returned to the NCAA tournament after claiming the program's first ever sweep of the Patriot League regular season and tournament titles. BU also garnered multiple major year-end awards from the conference along with its first All-America honor in 18 years.
Led by PL Coach of the Year
Kevin Nylen, the Terriers posted a 12-4-4 record with a 7-1-1 conference mark and finished in the top 100 nationally in 13 NCAA statistical categories, including 28th in team goals against average (.900) and 68th in scoring offense (1.55). They also went 8-0-2 at Nickerson Field to become the first squad since 1994 to go unbeaten at home while adding a title en route to the program's 16th overall NCAA appearance. BU last reached the NCAAs in 2015 and last claimed the PL regular season title in 2014.
Both senior goalkeeper
Francesco Montali and graduate student defender
Griffin Roach repeated as Patriot League major award winners, as they helped BU shut out both Colgate and Lafayette to hoist a conference tournament trophy for the first time since claiming the America East title in 2008. Ranking 11th in solo shutouts with eight total, Montali was selected in the third round of the Major League Soccer Draft, while Roach garnered
College Soccer News All-America Third Team honors.
On the other side of the field, senior
Eitan Rosen claimed both PL Tournament MVP and Offensive Player of the Year honors with 10 goals and 22 points, the most by a Terrier since 2009. Two of his highlight moments included netting the title game winner against Lafayette and the first strike of the NCAA opener at defending national champion Syracuse. Graduate student
Colin Innes joined Montali, Roach and Rosen in earning All-Region First Team honors with a team-high eight assists, the most by a Terrier since 2012.
BU excelled in the classroom as well with a 3.41 fall semester GPA. Owner of eight points, two-time All-PL memberÂ
Quinn Matulis became the first Terrier since 2014 to claim PL Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition. Montali and Roach also became the program's first duo to claim United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America honors thanks to their academic and athletic success.
