The Boston University field hockey team will kick off its 2024 season with a pair of visits to regional rivals this weekend. The opener will take place at Providence on Friday (Aug. 30) and the Terriers will make the short trip to Newton to face No. 17 Boston College on Sunday (Sept. 1).

The Boston University field hockey team will kick off its 2024 season with a pair of visits to regional rivals this weekend. The opener will take place at Providence on Friday (Aug. 30) and the Terriers will make the short trip to Newton to face No. 17 Boston College on Sunday (Sept. 1).
TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers will embark on their 47th season at the varsity level.
- Senior Payton Anderson, junior Martu Coulo and sophomore Nicole Lauro were all named to the NFHCA Division I Watchlist on Thursday.
- Anderson and Coulo were named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team.
- BU was picked fourth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll.
- Sophomore Caroline O'Brien is the team's leading returner in both goals (9) and points (18).
- Anderson has 56 career points on the strength of 24 goals.
- Graduate student Kate Thomason returns for a fifth year after starting all 18 contests last season and posting a 2.51 goals-against average and a .683 save percentage.
- The Friars were selected sixth in the Big East Preseason Poll.
- Sophomore Florencia Talarico was named to the Preseason All-Big East Team after a rookie year that saw her tally 10 points on two goals and six assists.
- Graduate student Ally DeCoste is the team's leading returner in both points (21) and goals (9).
- Senior Celia Preveza returns after totaling 16 points (6g, 4a) in 2023.
- In goal, graduate student Asia Porter is back after starting all 18 games a year ago.
- BU is 22-12 all-time against the Friars.
- The Terriers have won seven of the past eight meetings, including a 2-1 victory in the last meeting for the 2022 season opener.
- The Eagles will start the year ranked 17th in the country and they were picked sixth in the Preseason ACC Poll.
- Graduate student Peyton Hale is the team's top returner after tallying 26 points, including 10 goals, last season.
- BC will open up its 2024 season on Friday with a home contest against Northeastern.
- BC leads the all-time series, 24-18-3, and has won six straight meetings, including a 4-0 contest at New Balance Field last season.
- The Terriers' last win over the Eagles came in overtime in 2016 and it created a tie in the rivalry history before BC went on its current run.
- The teams first met in 1978.
- BU will open its home schedule next Friday (Sept. 6) when it hosts No. 12 Michigan.
- Game time is set for 6 p.m.
