BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team scored on three corners and graduate student
Kate Thomason stopped all seven shots she faced, resulting in a 3-0 victory in the Terriers' Patriot League home opener against Lehigh on Saturday at New Balance Field.

Payton Anderson scored the game's first two goals before fifth-year senior
Tess Csejka added a late insurance tally.
The Terriers scored on their first corner in the final minute of the opening quarter and Thomason made three saves each in both the second and third quarters to keep the visitors from leveling the score.Â

Caroline O'Brien each had one assist.
Both teams are now 4-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU overcame three early corners by the visitors and Thomason turned away the game's first shot on goal in the 10th minute.
- The Terriers used their first shot and corner of the contest to opening the scoring with under a minute left in the opening quarter.
- Anderson found the boards with a low drive off assists from Jay and Wetzel at the 14:11 mark.
- Lehigh earned a corner in the closing seconds of the first but the resulting play resulted in a wide shot.
- Thomason made back-to-back stops in the 22nd minute capped by an impressive stick save to keep it a 1-0 contest.
- BU doubled its lead just 40 seconds into the second half after quickly earning a corner.
- The play was set up for Anderson once again and perfectly executed a drag flick to the top right corner to make it 2-0 with assists going to Wetzel and Poerio.
- Thomason once again thwarted a Lehigh chance off a corner in the 39th minute, turning aside a rebound attempt before denying another follow-up.
- On BU's ninth and final corner of the afternoon, a direct insert from Jay went to O'Brien, who drilled the ball towards the cage with Csejka getting her stick on it in the middle of the circle.
- The tipped ball got past Lehigh goalkeeper Jenny Canoni to push the lead to 3-0 with 4:13 left in regulation.

- Anderson now has seven goals on the season and she became just the ninth Terrier in program history to reach 30 career goals.
- Jay's assist was her first collegiate point.
- BU held a 17-15 shot advantage while each team earned nine corners.
- Canoni made nine saves in goal for the Mountain Hawks.
