GAME 1: #23/RV BU - 6, Indiana State - 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- ISU started the game with a one-out single against Johnson in her debut for the Terriers, but she came back with a strikeout before classmate Addie Lucier ended the top of the first by throwing the runner out attempting to steal second.
- The Sycamores' Lauren Sackett held BU hitless through the first three innings with just one walk allowed.
- In the fourth, ISU led off with an infield single against Johnson and advanced the runner on Nell's ensuing wild pitch.
- Nell kept the runner at second with an infield pop out and back-to-back swinging strikeouts.
- During the bottom half, the Terriers quickly loaded the bases off freshman Camryn Lyons' single up the middle, Coyle's infield single and junior Brooke Deppiesse's mishandled sacrifice bunt attempt.
- Sophomore Sophie Naivar then delivered an RBI sac fly, and Baglieri followed up with the two-RBI triple.
- BU doubled its lead in the bottom of the sixth with three runs off a pair of hits, including sophomore Kylie Doherty's two-RBI single, a hit-by-pitch and an RBI infield grounder.
- Nell wrapped up her four-inning relief appearance with a pair of ground outs and infield pop for the combined shutout wih Johnson.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU needed little time to grab the lead for good with Lucier leading off the game on a single to right center, advancing to second on Lyons' single up the middle and lastly scoring on Coyle's RBI single up the middle.
- Deppiesse then plated Lyons with an RBI grounder toward short for the 2-0 advantage.
- The Eagles never advanced a runner past second base, as they led off the bottom of the second with a single and added a two-out stolen base before Ricard earned a swinging strikeout.
- In the third, Ricard faced a similar situation following a one-out hit-by-pitch and two-out stolen base. She again came up big by collecting a grounder and throwing to first to maintain a 2-0 lead.
- During the top of the fifth, Baglieri led off with a single and was replaced by Lucier on a fielder's choice.
- The Eagles then earned a swinging strikeout before Coyle singled to third with two outs and advanced a base on a double steal with Lucier.
- Deppiesse singled up the middle to plate Lucier before FGCU threw a bullet home from right to get the tag out at home on Coyle trying to score from second.
- After Ricard quickly retired the side to keep the 3-0 lead, BU put the game away in the top of the sixth with five runs off three hits, a hit-by-pitch and bases-loaded walk.
- The Terriers initially loaded the bases with zero outs on junior Aimee Metz's hit-by-pitch, Doherty's walk and sophomore Libby Walsh's single up the middle.
- After FGCU recorded the force at home on a grounder to third, Baglieri singled to right to plate Doherty and Lyons shortly thereafter battled back from a 0-2 count to draw a two-out RBI walk.
- Coyle then blasted a 2-1 pitch to left for the bases-clearing double to put the game in run-rule territory, 8-0.
- Ricard sealed her two-hit shutout on an infield pop up and pair of ground outs
- Ricard is riding a three-game shutout streak dating back to her five-inning gem against defending Horizon League champion in the 2024 NCAA Regional last May. In total, she's now pitched 18 combined scoreless innings.
- With her victories over Boston College and FGCU this weekend, she has tied former teammate, Allison Boaz ('24), for No. 5 all-time in the program record book at 25 shutouts.
- BU's offense combined for 17 hits, including a triple and double, while the defense allowed just five total singles.
- Baglieri went a combined 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Coyle went 4-for-7 with all four of her RBIs coming in the second game.
- After improving to 2-0 all-time against ISU in their first meeting since 2007, the Terriers avenged a 6-1 loss in 2015 to FGCU to even the series, 1-1.
- BU will conclude its lone scheduled trip to the Sunshine State with a rematch against FGCU on Sunday (Feb. 9) starting at 12:30 p.m. The contest will be streamed on ESPN+.
