FORT MYERS, Fla. – Facing a one-run deficit in the top of the seventh, the No. 23 nationally-ranked and defending Patriot League champion Boston University softball team rallied with three consecutive two-out RBI hits to stun defending Atlantic Sun champion Florida Gulf Coast University, 6-4, on Sunday afternoon.

With their second victory of the weekend over the FGCU Kickoff Classic hosts, the Terriers remain undefeated at 5-0, while the Eagles drop to 3-3. In the circle, D1Softball's No. 26 overall ranked player, Kasey Ricard, collected her third win against No. 91 Allison Sparkman by holding FGCU to just one run and four hits over 6.2 innings of relief. Sophomore Kylie Doherty delivered what proved to be the decisive blow with a two-out, two-RBI triple after classmates Sophie Naivar and Libby Walsh recorded back-to-back RBI singles.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Freshman Addie Lucier began the game with a lead-off single up the middle and eventually scored on Deppiesse's two-out RBI double.
FGCU was able to quickly apply pressure by loading the bases against freshman Danika Nell with a walk, single and one-out single.
The Eagles then delivered a two-RBI single to prompt a pitching change and shortly afterword earned an RBI sac fly to right for the 3-1 advantage.
FGCU threatened Ricard in the bottom of the fourth with back-to-back one-out singles, but Ricard kept the deficit at two runs on a line out and infield pop up.
BU left a combined six runners on base through five innings before Deppiesse led off the sixth with a double and scored on Doherty's two-out RBI single down the right field line.
Junior Megan Coyle earned a four-pitch walk with one out in the seventh and junior pinch runner Aimee Metz advanced to second on a ground out to first.
The Eagles made the decision to intentionally walk Deppiesse and paid the price, as sophomore Sophie Naivar drove the ball to center to tie the game.
Walsh followed with another RBI single and scored with Naivar on Doherty's two-RBI triple to left center.
The Eagles tired to rally back with a lead-off walk and two-out RBI double, but Ricard sealed the victory on a fly out to right for her third win.

GAME NOTES

The Terriers are now on a 28-game unbeaten streak in regular season play.
BU's pitching staff had recorded 27 scoreless innings before FGCU became the first opponent to get on the scoreboard.
Ricard pitched 24.1 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to last season before the Eagles earned a two-out RBI double in the seventh.
BU finished with 10-7 advantage in hits, as Doherty tied a personal best with three hits.
The Terriers are now 2-1 all-time against FGCU.

UP NEXT

BU will next travel to East Carolina's Pirate Clash for five games on Feb. 14-16.
The Terriers will face ECU and UMBC two times apiece with one matchup against Radford.
