BOSTON – Continuing the extended season-opening road trip, the No. 22 Boston University softball team will travel to East Carolina to face three different opponents at the Pirate Clash starting Friday morning.
The Terriers will open the three-day event against former America East rival UMBC with a 10 a.m. first pitch and then battle host ECU at 5 p.m. On Saturday, BU and the Pirates will face off again starting at 11 a.m. with the Terriers then meeting Radford at 1 p.m. Sunday's rematch against the Retrievers at 10 a.m. will close out the competition.

TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU went 5-0 at the FGCU Kickoff Classic in the opening weekend with a pair of wins over the host and defending ASUN champion Eagles.
- The Terriers also defeated Boston College, Indiana State and LIU to move up one spot in the D1Softball Top 25 poll and give head coach Ashley Waters her third 5-0 start since the start of the 2020 campaign.
- BU started a season with four shutouts for the first time in program history and was only one of two NCAA Division I squads alongside Texas State (played four games) to play error-free softball.
- The Terriers are currently tied with defending NCAA champion Oklahoma for the second longest active road win streak at nine games with Texas leading the way at 11.
- Named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, freshman Biz Baglieri batted .556 with four RBIs, while junior transfer Megan Coyle (.438) collected a team-high seven hits with five RBIs.
- Junior Brooke Deppiesse (.385) earned a team-high three doubles alongside four RBIs and reached home plate six times thanks in part to three walks and a hit-by-pitch. Sophomore Kylie Doherty (.385) led BU with six RBIs and two triples.
- Preseason All-American and junior Kasey Ricard (3-0, 0.36 ERA) totaled 15 strikeouts in 19.2 innings of work for three wins, including two shutouts. She is currently the top active pitcher across all three NCAA divisions with 25 shutouts.
- Freshman Danika Nell (2-0, 1.85 ERA) pitched a solo shutout against LIU and teamed with classmate Ava Johnson (0-0, 0.00 ERA) for a second shutout over Indiana State.
- In total, eight newcomers made their debut in the scarlet and white.
- BU batted .301 for the tournament and held opponents to .145 with an 8-1 advantage in extra base hits.

- UMBC had an America East-high five representatives earn preseason All-Conference honors after the team went 21-24 last spring with a 10-11 conference mark.
- The Retrievers earned key non-conference wins over Wisconsin (2x), UMass, Kent State and Hofstra.
- 2024 All-AE First Team member Ella Squaires returns after batting .393, while Emily Riggs (.298) led UMBC with seven homers and 36 RBIs.
- Three-time All-AE honoree Kya Matter (10-14, 2.69 ERA) earned 146 strikeouts in 153.2 innings of work with four shutouts by holding opponents to .216 batting average.
- Overall, UMBC batted .273 last season with a 63-48 advantage in stolen bases and 35-32 edge in doubles while limiting teams to .237 average.
- BU leads the all-time series, 26-6, with a 24-5 conference mark after sweeping the last AE three-game series between the two programs at home in 2013.
- Coming off a 38-19 season, the Pirates return home following participation in the Gamecock Invitational in which they earned wins over defending NEC champion Saint Francis (8-2) and Providence (6-4). They also came up just short to a pair of squads receiving national votes in Virginia (4-2) and host South Carolina (1-0).
- Emma Jackson is back after leading ECU last season at .397 with 13 homers, 24 doubles and 50 RBIs, while Anna Sawyer (.325) posted 14 doubles with 28 RBIs.
- Logan Sutton (.266) went 5-for-12 (.417) with two RBIs last weekend and Annie Kate Dalton (.303) batted 4-for-12 (.333) with a homer and three RBIs.
- Ranking No. 19 in ExtraInnings' Top 100 incoming freshmen, pitcher Kendall Frost held UVa to two earned runs in seven innings of work and three hits before scattering six hits over six innings against the Gamecocks.
- In the tournament, ECU batted .270 and held the four opponents to .186 with a 9-4 advantage in extra base hits.
- BU and ECU are tied, 1-1, after meeting in the opening round of the ECAC tournament at Hofstra in both 1993 and 1994.
- After posting a 24-23 record last spring, the Highlanders opened the new campaign 2-3 in Leesburg, Florida with wins over Louisville (3-1) and Middle Tennessee (3-2). They fell in the rematch with the Blue Raiders (4-1) and also came up short to Liberty (3-2) and Cleveland State (7-1).
- A transfer from Emmanuel College, Isabel Harrison went 2-for-3 in four of the five games for a .533 average. Cassi Barbato is the top returning hitter at .328 with four homers and 34 RBIs.
- Posting a 7-10 record and 3.78 ERA last season as a freshman, Morgan Cooper is off to a strong start in the circle, as she held ACC member Louisville and 2024 NCAA participant Liberty to a combind 13 hits and just two earned runs over 13 innings of work for a 1.08 ERA and 1-1 record.
- Radford batted .252 last weekend after hitting .258 a year prior while holding opponents to .287.
- The Highlanders lead the all-time series with BU, 2-0, after earning a 10-8 win in 2010 and 5-4 victory in 2007 on neutral sites.
- For the second consecutive season, BU will participate in South Carolina's Garnet & Black Invitational on Feb. 21-23.
- The Terriers will face both UNLV and the Gamecocks two times apiece before battling Fordham on the final day of competition.
