
Softball Completes Series Sweep With Pair of Wins at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Helped by 10 extra-base hits, the Boston University softball team completed the series sweep at Bucknell with a pair of wins Sunday afternoon.
Facing a 3-0 deficit in the top of the fourth of the first game, the Terriers (17-10, 3-0 PL) rallied with a combined 11 runs over the next five innings to defeat the Bison (9-16, 0-3 PL), 8-4 and 8-2.
Senior Sydney Pecoraro led the offense batting a combined 5-for-8 with four RBIs, while junior Brooke Deppiesse went 4-for-7 with three runs scored.
In the circle, freshman Ava Johnson (1-1) earned her first career victory by holding Bucknell to just one run in the final 4.2 innings of the first contest with the help of four strikeouts against one walk. A day after throwing over 260 pitches in Saturday's 15-inning marathon, junior Kasey Ricard (11-6) earned four strikeouts in a complete-game effort for the 8-2 win over the Bison.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After BU stranded a runner in scoring position in the top of the second, the Bison jumped on the scoreboard first by taking advantage of a BU error and wild pitch with an infield single for the 1-0 advantage.
- The Bison kept the pressure on junior Haley Ganino in the third with a lead-off single, walk, sac bunt and two-RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.
- Johnson then entered the circle and kept the deficit at just three runs with a strikeout and infield pop up.
- Deppiesse started the comeback by delivering a lead-off double to left center and scoring on Pecoraro's RBI single through the left side.
- The Terriers grabbed the lead for good in the top of the fifth with four runs off four hits and a walk with sophomore Kylie Doherty plating two runs on a bases-loaded double to right.
- Deppiesse followed with an RBI sac fly and Pecoraro added her second RBI single of the game to pull ahead, 5-3.
- The Bison responded with three straight one-out singles to cut the deficit to 5-4, but Johnson earned an infield pop up and swinging strikeout to keep the lead.
- Freshman Addie Lucier led off the sixth with a single and scored on sophomore Kyomi Apalit's two-out, two-RBI homer to center.
- After Pecoraro tripled for the second time this season to plate Deppiesse in the top of the seventh, Johnson earned two pop ups and liner to short to claim the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bison earned two quick outs in the top of the first, but the Terriers were still able to get on the scoreboard thanks to four consecutive hits, including sophomore Libby Walsh's two-RBI triple to right and Lucier's RBI double to right center.
- Bucknell led off the third with an infield single before the Terriers were able to turn the 2-4-6 double play on a failed sac bunt attempt.
- The Bison threatened again in the fourth with another lead-off single, two-out walk and RBI double down the left field line, but Ricard kept a two-run lead by earning a ground out..
- Deppiesse launched an 0-1 pitch toward right center for a triple with one out, but BU was unable to bring her home.
- In the sixth, Lucier singled to left with one out and scored on junior Olivia DeLong's RBI double for the 4-1 advantage.
- Bucknell cut the deficit in half on a lead-off double and one-out RBI sac fly.
- The Terriers though blew open the game in the top of the seventh with four runs off four hits alongside a wild pitch and passed ball.
- Ricard retired the side with a fly out, line out and ground out to seal the sweep.
- BU will remain on the road and next visit Merrimack for two games on Tuesday (March 25) starting at 2 p.m.
