Terriers Fall on Senior Day to No. 15/16 Loyola Maryland

BOSTON — Junior Elle Stevenson tied her career high with five goals, but the Boston University women's lacrosse team fell to No. 15/16 Loyola Maryland, 20-14, at Nickerson Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers (7-6, 2-4 PL) were down 11-3 at the half and cut the deficit to just five with nine minutes remaining, but the Greyhounds (10-5, 7-0 PL) had too much offensive firepower to ever put their 90-game conference winning streak in jeopardy.
Despite the loss, BU won the second half, outscoring Loyola 11-9 in the final 30 minutes.
The Terriers won the turnover battle, only committing 11 to Loyola's 19, but the Greyhounds outdrew BU 33-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior Jayne Feeney scored the first goal of the game, dodging her way to open space and firing home a shot to make it 1-0 Terriers 2:32 into the contest.
- The Greyhounds responded with six straight goals to take a 6-1 lead with 5:30 to play in the first quarter.
- Stevenson fired home a free position goal into the top right corner of the net with 13 seconds remaining in the period.
- The Greyhounds were able to strike with no time remaining in the quarter, taking a 7-2 lead into the second.
- Loyola scored the first two goals of the second quarter as well.
- Senior Hannah Tillier finished off a chance from Stevenson with 4:15 remaining in the first half to make it 9-3 Loyola.
- The Greyhounds found the back of the net twice in the final 3:09 to take an 11-3 lead into halftime.
- Stevenson jumpstarted the BU offense in the second half with a goal just 1:36 into it.
- Then Loyola struck twice, but junior Izabella Amonte scored with 9:19 to go.
- Graduate student Kendall Sims was the next Terrier to score, just 33 seconds after Amonte, firing home a free position goal.
- The Greyhounds responded twice, then the Terriers bit back with a Stevenson goal, her third of the day, with 4:45 remaining in the quarter.
- Sims scored another free position goal with 3:10 to play, cutting the lead to 15-8.
- With 2:53 left, Loyola's Chase Boyle scored goal number six on the day.
- Tillier responded with a free position goal with 2:42 to play in the frame.
- Sophomore Tessa Geddes recorded her 20th goal of the year off an assist from Stevenson with 55 seconds remaining in the third, making it 16-10 Loyola entering the final quarter.
- Loyola got the first goal of the fourth, but Amonte turned around and scored to cut the deficit to just six.
- Then Stevenson's fourth of the day made it 17-12 with 9:55 remaining.
- The Greyhounds extended their lead back to six with 7:25 to go.
- Tillier completed her hat trick with 5:48 remaining in the game after freshman Alex Kucharz found the senior cutting in front of the net.
- Loyola was able to ice the game with two more goals within 40 seconds of each other, making it 20-13 with 2:09 to play.
- Then Stevenson recorded her career-high fifth goal of the game off an assist from Geddes with 1:04 remaining.
- Loyola outshot BU 41-25.
- The Terriers had solid midfield play, picking up 20 ground balls compared to the Greyhounds' 17.
- Graduate student Kendall Sims earned five ground balls, tying a career high that she had set against Navy on March 29.
- She is up to 30 this season, marking the third straight year a Terrier has recorded 30 ground balls or more.
- Sophomore Natalie Aiosa made nine saves in net.
- Tillier recorded a hat trick and is up to 98 career points.
- Stevenson's seven points ties her career record. She has 31 points this season, tied for her career-best total last year.
- This was the highest-scoring game for BU against the Greyhounds since 2017, a 14-19 loss.
- BU's 11 second-half goals are the most the team has scored in the second half this season.
- The Terriers are hitting the road for a Patriot League contest at Colgate on Wednesday, April 16.
- Opening draw is set for 5 p.m.
