August 13, 2025 | Men's Soccer
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Led by the return of two major Patriot League year-end award recipients, the Boston University men's soccer team has grabbed the top slot in the conference preseason poll, as announced by the league office Wednesday morning.
Tabbed the preseason favorite for the first time since joining the conference in the summer of 2013, the Terriers will enter the 2025 campaign seeking their third straight regular season title under head coach Kevin Nylen. They had previously been selected No. 2 on five occasions, including the previous two years.
Seniors Quin DeLaMater and Diego Rived were joined by junior Andrea Di Blasio on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team after receiving 2024 PL Defensive Player and Midfielder of the Year honors, respectively. All three Terriers along with returning senior John Roman earned their first All-PL award last November.
Both the preseason poll and honors were voted on by the head coaches. The Terriers landed atop the poll with 75 total points and four first-place votes to finish ahead of Bucknell's 70 points and four first-place votes. Recipient of 67 points and the other two first-place votes, American took third ahead of Loyola Maryland (54). Colgate (49), Lehigh (40), Navy (31), Lafayette (31), Army West Point (22) and Holy Cross (11) rounded out the poll.
DeLaMater started 15 games last fall and finished playing 1,261 minutes, third most on the team. Named BU's third straight PL Defensive Player of the Year, he finished tied-for-first on the team at nine points off three goals and a team-high three assists. He found the back of the net against Northeastern and Lafayette before scoring the game winner at Navy.
Rived garnered the Terriers' first Midfielder of the Year award from a conference since 2008 by starting 17 of the 18 games and finishing tied-for-first on the team with three assists alongside his first career goal scored against Army West Point. He played the second-most minutes on the team at 1,268 total and helped BU shut out then-No. 9 New Hampshire, Bucknell, Colgate and Navy.
Di Blasio placed tied-for-first on the team with four goals and nine points (4g,1a). Three of the goals proved to be game winners, highlighted by Di Blasio earning his first career brace in a 3-2 victory over Army West Point. He also found the back of the net in back-to-back 1-0 victories against Bucknell and Colgate.
The Terriers will open the season at New Hampshire on Thursday, Aug. 21, and will start the home slate against Brown on Friday, Sept. 5.
