BOSTON - No. 11 Providence scored early in the first period and then tallied three goals the final frame to defeat the No. 18 Boston University men's ice hockey team, 4-0, on Saturday night at Agganis Arena.

BU outshot Providence, 33-26, but Providence netminder Jack Parsons turned aside every shot he faced. Sophomore Mikhail Yegorov took the hard-luck loss after making 22 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Terriers looked energized off the opening drop but Providence got a goal against the run of play just 2:03 into the proceedings.
BU had five minutes of power play time late in the second stanza after Providence was whistled for a major but the Terriers were unable to find an equalizer.
Yegorov kicked out his right leg to deny a Roger McQueen bid from the slot with about 11:00 left in the third to keep the deficit to just one, but Providence broke through again at the 10:34 mark to take a 2-0 lead.
The Friars added an insurance marker with 2:34 remaining in regulation off a faceoff win to make it 3-0.
The Terriers pulled Yegorov in favor of an extra attacker with 2:01 remaining in regulation but were unable to get a puck past Parsons, with the Friars adding a late empty-netter to create the 4-0 final.
