Boumedienne Named Hockey East Defender of the Week

AMESBURY, Mass. - Sophomore Sascha Boumedienne of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named Hockey East Defender of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Boumedienne totaled two assists and 10 blocked shots to help BU go 1-0-1 this past week. Not only did Boumedienne provide the primary helper on freshman Ryder Ritchie's overtime goal in Friday's 3-2 win over then-No. 18 Maine, but the second-year defenseman recorded nine blocked shots against the Black Bears.
A gold medalist with Sweden at this year's World Junior Championship, Boumedienne has played in 27 games for the Terriers this season, totaling 10 points (2g, 8a) and blocking 39 shots. In 67 career games at BU, Boumedienne has notched five goals and 18 assists for 23 points.
