The Terriers (4-3, 0-1 PL) were within two goals of the Black Knights (5-2, 1-0 PL) in the third quarter, but a 5-0 run of goals for Army allowed them to pull away.
Senior Elle Stevenson led BU with five goals, junior Tessa Geddes notched three goals and an assist and freshman Gabby O'Brien had two goals. Additionally, junior Reilly Walsh scored a goal and had an assist, and freshman Avery Cutair tallied two assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights kicked off the game with four straight goals, but the Terriers would respond with four straight of their own.
- Walsh opened the BU account with a free-position goal with 9:05 left in the first quarter.
- Then O'Brien made her mark on the game, dodging a defender on the right side and bouncing her shot past the Army goalkeeper.
- Stevenson then scored two straight for BU, first taking a pass from junior Tessa Geddes, then switching from her right to left and beating Serafine.
- Her second goal came from a tight angle on the side of the goal and screaming over the goalkeeper's shoulder.
- The Black Knights scored with a second left in the first quarter and then added three more in the second quarter.
- Stevenson's third goal was a rocket as she took a pass from Walsh and wound up for a long-range shot that beat Army's goalie.
- That goal came with 4:56 left in the half and neither team could score in the remainder of the first half, and BU entered the second half down 8-5.
- The Black Knights potted the first goal of the second half, then the Terriers responded with two goals.
- O'Brien netted her second of the day after breaking through a double team and shooting from her right side to beat the goalkeeper.
- Then Geddes blazed past the Black Knights defense on the left side and beat the goalkeeper with 9:53 left in the quarter to cut the deficit to just 9-7.
- The Black Knights once again went on a run, this time of five goals, and held a 14-7 lead with 11:06 to play in the game.
- While falling down, Geddes scored her second of the game, using a huge stutter step to create space between two defenders and beat the goalie low.
- Stevenson cut the deficit to 14-9 with 4:30 remaining as she once again wound up from the left wing and hammered home a shot.
- After the Black Knights made it 15-9 with under a minute to play, both Geddes and Stevenson added goals, with Stevenson's just beating the buzzer.
- With her five draw controls, Barton surpassed 100 career draw controls and now sits at 104.
- Stevenson's five goals ties her career high. She now has eight career games with four or more goals.
- The Terriers and Black Knights both picked up 14 draw controls.
- Senior Siri Hodgins led the Terriers with three caused turnovers and has eight in her last two games.
- Freshman Avery Cutair increased her assists total to 15, tying the Terriers' highest individual mark from 2025.
- The Terriers will turn around and take on the Brown Bears on Tuesday (March 11) at Nickerson Field.
- Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
