Patriot League Champion Terriers Draw NCAA Trip to Lubbock Regional
May 10, 2026 | Softball
BOSTON – After hoisting its eighth Patriot League trophy in 11 years, the now four-time reigning conference champion Boston University softball team will fly down to the double elimination Lubbock Regional hosted by 2025 national runner-up Texas Tech on May 15-17 as part of the NCAA tournament.
Seeded third in the regional, the Terriers (46-13) will open against the Southeastern Conference's at-large bid recipient, Ole Miss (34-24), on Friday (May 15) with the ESPNU broadcast slated for a 2 p.m. ET first pitch. The No. 11 national-seeded Raiders (52-6) from the Big 12 will take on MAAC champion Marist (37-19) in the second contest at 4:30 p.m. ET.
Making its ninth NCAA appearance as the Patriot League champion and 15th overall, BU will be visiting the southwest for the fifth time in seven tournaments following four trips to the state of Oklahoma (2018, 21, 24, 25). Last season, the Terriers came up short to the eight-time NCAA champion Sooners and Summit champion Omaha after eliminating Horizon League champion Cleveland State in 2024 and MEAC champion NC Central in 2023.
The Terriers will enter a regional as the No. 3 seed for the fourth time in five appearances and fifth overall after earning the slot in 2012, 2021, 2023 and 2024. Riding a 12-game win streak, BU will face Ole Miss for the first time in program history.
BU only faced Texas Tech once back in 2011 with the Red Raiders pulling out a 4-0 decision during South Florida's The Game Tournament held in Tampa, Florida. The Terriers are 2-4 all-time against the Red Foxes after earning a 2-0 win in February 2020 at Arkansas' Razorback Invitational.
The Lubbock Regional victor will advance to the Super Regional on May 21-24 against the winner of the Gainesville Regional hosted by No. 6 national-seeded Florida.
