Deidre Enos Named Conference Player of the Week

Junior forward Deidre Enos (Milton HS/Milton, MA), has been named the America East Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the two goals she scored in the Terriers' 4-3 overtime win at Northwestern on Sunday (September 12th).
Enos, who had scored her first goal at the 49:10 juncture of the game to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead, came back to score the game-winner at 114:58.
Deidre showed a great individual effort in scoring that winning goal for us, said head coach Nancy Feldman, whose team improved its record to 2-2.
It also marked the first time in the five-year history of the program that the Terriers defeated a Big Ten school.
Remember, this was the 115th minute of the game, and Deidre had sat out only five or six minutes during the entire game, noted the coach. Yet, despite this, she showed great speed in getting to the ball. She had decided that there was no way the Northwestern defender was going to beat her to the loose ball, and Deidre showed us speed we didn't know she had. In fact, she got into sixth gear and got to the ball.
Even after getting to the ball, she had to show tremendous composure in not rushing her shot, continued Feldman. In fact, the Northwestern goalie came out to stop her, and Deidre had to make a move to get around her.
By then, the Northwestern defense had come back and there was a player on the goal line, but Deidre took her time and scored the winning goal.
The two goals brought Enos' season total to three, as she also has an assist for seven points. She is second in the league in points per game with 1.75, while she is tied for second in goals a game with 0.75.
Deidre has worked very hard this year to put herself in position to score goals, said Feldman. And, she has had some excellent scoring opportunities. Hopefully, her scoring two goals against Northwestern will ease her mind about finishing off these opportunities.
She can be a sniper for us, the coach said. She was a finisher in high school, and she can do the same for us.
The win at Northwestern was particularly noteworthy as it marked marked the first time the Wildcats lost at home in two years. Prior to the Sunday game, they were 14-0-1 in their last 15 home games. What's more, since moving to their new field three years ago, Northwestern was 19-1-1.
It was a huge win for us, said the coach. We wanted to make some noise out there and come back at least 1-1.
After losing to Illinois, 3-0, on Friday night, the Terriers came out against Northwestern and jumped to a 2-0 lead on goals by Nicole Soules and Enos. The Wildcats cut the deficit to 2-1 before Mary-Beth Magner put B.U. ahead, 3-1, at 59:56.
Northwestern then scored a pair of goals, the second coming with less than five minutes to play to tie the game at the end of regulation.
The team was not going to be happy with a tie, said Feldman. Everyone was playing for a win, and they showed their true character and composure and came back with the win in overtime.
The kids showed they belong.
The Terriers are off until this weekend when they travel to Rutgers on Friday and Rhode Island on Sunday.
There are no breaks in the schedule, said Feldman. Both teams are ranked in their regions. Rutgers is 3-1 and is ranked 7th in the Mid-Atlantic Region, while Rhode Island is 5-0 and ranked 8th in the Region.
The Terriers, on the strength of their win against Northwestern, have jumped from not being ranked in the Northeast to being 6th.
We are purposely playing a very difficult out-of-conference schedule, said Feldman. We want to be in a position to get an at-large bid to the NCAAs if we don't win the America East title.
Last year, we did not do well against our non-conference teams, continued the coach. This year, we want to win at least half of those games. That will help set the tone for our confidence level once we get into our conference schedule.
That's one of the reasons the win over Northwestern was so huge for us.
