Terriers To Play Towson In America East Tourney
October 30, 2000 | Women's Soccer
The top-seeded Terrier women's soccer team begins its quest for its first-ever America East women's soccer tournament title when it takes on fourth-seeded Towson at 3:00 p.m. on Friday (November 3rd) at the University of Hartford's Al-Marzook Field.
In the second game of the tournament semifinals, second-seeded University of Hartford will meet third-seeded Hofstra at 5:30 p.m.
The two winners will play for the tournament title at noon on Sunday (November 5th) at Al-Marzook Field.
B.U. earned the top seed by finishing the season with a perfect 9-0-0 record, and its first America East regular-season title.
The Terriers concluded the season on Sunday (October 29th) with a 3-0 win over the same Towson team they will play on Sunday.
In the victory, junior goalkeeper Danielle Demers (Portland, ME) turned aside six Towson shots en route to earning her fourth straight shutout and her eighth overall for the season.
In America East play this season, Demers was 7-0-0 and did not allow a goal, while she had 27 saves.
She will enter the tournament as the conference's second-leading goalie with a 0.72 goals against average. The only keeper with a lower GAA is the University of Hartford's Anne-Lisa Nilssen, who had a 0.63 GAA.
Both Demers and Nilssen met on October 20th at the University of Hartford, and Demers came away with a 3-0 win. She had four saves, while Nilssen, who yielded all three Terrier goals, had 11 saves.
Demers will enter Friday's tournament opener with a string of 378 minutes, 29 seconds of shutout soccer. The last goal she gave up was against Harvard University on October 18th. That was also the last loss suffered by the Terriers, who will go into the tournament on a four-game winning streak.
Demers isn't the only Terrier ranked among the conference leaders through games of this past weekend.
Senior co-captain Deidre Enos (Milton) leads the conference in both scoring (1.89 points a game) and goals (0.89 per game).
She finished the regular-season with a school-record 17 goals along with two assists for 36 points, just one shy of the record of 37 which she set last year.
Enos will enter the tournament with the Terrier career records for goals--48, and points--114, while she is second in assists with 18.
