Enos' Two Goals Power Terriers Past Drexel
September 24, 2000 | Women's Soccer
(Sept. 24, 2000) -- Deidre Enos scored a pair of goals to help lead the Terrier women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Drexel on Sunday (September 24th) to complete a weekend America East conference sweep that began on Friday (September 22nd) with a 1-0 win over Hofstra.
The win over Drexel brought B.U.'s overall record to 4-4-0 marking the first time since the second game of the year that the team had a .500 record. More importantly, it kept the Terriers undefeated in America East play. Picked to finish second in the league in the pre-season poll of the coaches, B.U. is 2-0-0 in league play.
Enos continued to be the team's major offensive threat as she scored all three of her team's goals this past weekend. The two goals against Drexel marked the third time in eight games this year that she had a multiple-goal effort. Earlier this year, she scored twice each against St. Mary's of California and Boston College. The senior from Milton, who was last year's America East Player of the Year, has 8 of her team's 10 goals this year and 39 goals for her career.
B.U. dominated play on Sunday, outshooting Drexel by a whopping 37-2 margin and holding a 10-1 bulge in corner kicks.
Even with this decided advantage in the statistics, the Terriers did not score the game-winning goal until the 64:29 mark. At that point, Enos scored her second goal of the game with an assist to Megan Cross, who fed Enos with a beautiful pass. Enos took the ball and fired home the goal from eight yards out.
Earlier in the game, at the 11:19 mark, she redirected a hard shot that was centered by Nicole Soules. Enos' shot went low by the far post.
Drexel finally got on the scoreboard at 65:32 when freshman Jackie DeHorsey tallied her first collegiate goal. It was the Dragons' first goal in 482 minutes.
Jessica Clinton earned the win in the Terrier goal despite not having to make a save. In the meantime, Drexel keeper Sara Peranteau had a career-high 24 saves.
