Freshman Meghann Cook (Melrose) scored her first collegiate goal but it wasn't quite enough as the Terrier women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 double overtime decision to host University of Kansas on Sunday afternoon.
The loss earned the Terriers a split of their weekend trip to the Midwest as they blanked Creighton, 1-0, on Friday night (August 30th).
Cook took a feed from freshman Brooke Bingham (Marshfield) just 18 minutes into the match and beat the Jayhawk goalkeeper.
The score remained 1-0 until the 73rd minutes of the match when Kansas sophomore Rachel Gilfillan tied the game on a shot from the right box that beat Terrier junior keeper Jessica Clinton (Valley Stream, NY).
After a scoreless first overtime, Jayhawk freshman Caroline Smith tallied the game-winning goal in the 109th minute to give Kansas its first overtime win in school history.
